FUNCTION OF WORK:To lead criminal, civil, administrative, and regulatory investigations related to boating theft, fraud, accidents, and commercial and recreational wildlife and fisheries activities; and conduct surveillance of known and suspected targets for purposes of intelligence gathering and investigation.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher-level wildlife enforcement personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May exercise functional supervision over lower level Wildlife Enforcement Agents.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Sergeant by the presence of intelligence gathering and specialized, complex investigative duties requiring the application of advanced investigative techniques.
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant by the absence of supervisory responsibilities.

Leads investigations into illegal wildlife and fisheries activities and violations of state and federal criminal laws.
Conducts scene analyses, interviews witnesses, and collects evidence.
Conducts specialized physical and electronic surveillance to obtain evidence of illegal activity.
Analyzes facts to determine the course of an investigation.
Prepare detailed investigative reports.
Draft administrative documents, such as search warrants, arrest warrants, and asset forfeiture.
Prepares documents and evidence for court presentation.
Testifies as a material or expert witness in legal proceedings.
Works closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and coordinate multi-agency operations.
Engages with community stakeholders and participates in educational programs promoting conservation and safety.
May provide enforcement patrol assistance as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service:
Four years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Possession of a current driver's license.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
