FUNCTION OF WORK:
To supervise a group of Television Engineers in the operation, maintenance, and transmission of broadcasts.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from Television Engineer Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Television Engineers, contract personnel, and/or lower-level technical staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Television Engineer 3 by the presence of supervisory responsibility.

Differs from Television Engineer Manager by the absence of complete oversight over operations, maintenance, and transmission of broadcasts within a television engineering department.

Determines priorities and supervises the work of lower-level staff.

Approves leave; prepares and conducts employee performance reviews; interviews applicants; maintains employee records; and makes recommendations for promotions, reallocations, and other personnel actions.

Assists higher-level personnel by recommending revisions to policies and procedures that will result in improved operations.

Responsible for the accomplishment of goals and projects assigned to lower-level personnel in a production department.

Assigns and reviews the work of technical operating staff.

Conducts training sessions for all technical staff, engineering, production, operations, and contract workers.

Works with subordinates and independently in troubleshooting and developing workarounds for equipment failures and operator errors at all levels of production and transmission of programming.

In conjunction with a Television Engineer, configures, aligns, adjusts, maintains, and supervises the operation and use of production, post-production, on-air broadcast, satellite delivery, and television transmission systems in accordance with standards set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Public Broadcasting System (PBS) Technical Operating Standards.

Coordinates schedules of personnel and equipment to allocate appropriate resources for each project. Maintains equipment usage logs showing actual use versus scheduled use for billing and accounting purposes.

Supervises on-air broadcast system operations, including remote operation of the broadcast transmitter and the monitoring and adjusting network transmission path. Records, evaluates, and plays back all delayed broadcast programming.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years of experience in television engineering; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in television engineering; OR

An engineering-level certification designation from the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) plus three years of experience in television engineering; OR

A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in television engineering.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
