FUNCTION OF WORK:To supervise the work of staff performing sub-professional transportation construction inspection tasks.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a professional engineer. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over a staff of Construction Inspectors. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Construction Inspector 5 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities.

Oversees multiple road and bridge construction projects and monitors Construction Inspectors in the performance of their inspection duties.
Meets with contractors to discuss problems, answer questions, review work, initiate change orders, and verify records are being maintained in accordance with specifications.
Oversees the training of Construction Inspectors in construction techniques and processes. Aids subordinates in training to complete certification in areas of inspection as assigned by the Project Engineer.
Approves leave; prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals; interviews applicants; maintains employee records, and makes recommendations for promotions, reallocations, other personnel actions to supervisor.
Resolves conflicts among employees; recommends disciplinary actions when necessary.
Assists engineering managers by recommending revisions to policies and procedures that will result in improved operations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Thirty semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.
