FUNCTION OF WORK:To perform quality control review of sub-professional transportation construction inspection tasks.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a Construction Inspector Supervisor or professional Engineer. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May exercise functional supervision on a project-by-project basis. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Construction Inspector 4 by the presence of quality assurance and control responsibilities.
Differs from Construction Inspector Supervisor by the absence of direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reviews the work of lower-level inspectors to ensure accuracy and compliance with Departmental regulations and guidelines.
Reviews plans and specifications to ensure the project is progressing in accordance with DOTD standards and that the project goal is met.
Resolves project plan discrepancies involving field conditions.
Performs complex engineering calculations, data collection, and layout for utility relocation, and roadway.
Utilizes software to create, analyze, and verifies template grades as well as horizontal/vertical alignments and other plan data quantities.
Completes daily work reports and log field measured quantities for construction projects.
Confers with contractors to explain specifications and standards.
Informs contractors of areas of non-compliance.
Makes follow up inspections to ensure errors are corrected.
Ensures that construction projects materials and production meet the requirements of the Department's Quality Assurance Program and the Contract.
Reviews project sampling for audit and recapitulates project document records for final audit.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.
