FUNCTION OF WORK:To supervise direct patient care and support activities under the oversight of licensed nursing staff.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a Nursing Assistant Supervisor 2, Registered Nurse, or other higher-level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over Nursing Assistants and/or Nursing Unit Aides. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Nursing Assistant 2 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility.
Differs from Nursing Supervisor 2 by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility for multiple units.

Supervises lower-level healthcare staff providing nursing care to residents on an assigned shift.
Prepares work schedules and assignment sheets, making adjustments as necessary to ensure adequate staffing.
Performs rounds of inspection to monitor resident care, safety, and sanitary conditions.
Assists in orienting and training new nursing personnel to establish standards for specific worksite/patient care requirements.
Provides direct care to residents as needed, including assisting with daily living activities such as feeding, ambulation, bathing, dressing, and positioning.
Documents the care given and information regarding the resident/patient and keeps licensed staff informed about conditions and alerts them to changes.
Maintains records, completes reports, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
Assists in emergency situations and follows established protocols for crisis intervention.
Performs duties of lower-level Nursing Assistants when necessary.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in patient care; OR
Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate or graduation from an Emergency Medical Technician Program plus two years of experience in patient care; OR
Completion of an accredited registered or practical nursing program plus one year of experience in patient care.
NOTE:
Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
