FUNCTION OF WORK:To supervise the processing of anatomical donors for use in medical training.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from higher-level medical personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over lower-level morgue personnel and/or the operations of the morgue facility.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from a Morgue Technician 3 by the presence of supervisory responsibilities.

Supervises and assigns all morgue operations.
Directs and trains employees in record keeping for all phases of the body donation process from receipt to final disposition.
Maintains liaison with the contracted funeral home, transportation service, designated morgue, and pathology facilities.
Maintains equipment used in the morgue and anatomy teaching laboratories.
Supervises the coordination with the Louisiana Bureau of Anatomical Services directly on organization and needs for higher education facilities or institutions as it relates to cadaver use.
Make decisions about the suitability and dispensation of donated bodies.
Maintains complete and accurate records of the body donations received, distributed, storage location, embalming dates, harvesting of research/teaching cadaveric specimens, utilization, cremation, and final disposition of all cadaveric specimens.
Oversees capillary, venipuncture, and/or catheterization for testing or embalming purposes.
Oversees blood sample collection and pathogen screening.
Oversees the preparation and transportation of cadavers for use at higher education facilities and institutions.
Oversees the embalmment of donor bodies and preparation of donations to be used in higher education facilities and institutions.
Prepares and maintains the dissecting laboratories and donated bodies for classroom instruction.
Oversees the cremation of donor bodies and the operations of the crematory.
Ensures the disposal of hazardous chemicals related to the processing and embalming of cadavers are in accordance with policies and procedures.
Oversees the inventory of instruments and supplies of the morgue and anatomy teaching laboratories.
Acts as an ambassador for the Louisiana Bureau of Anatomical Services to the public and as an advocate for the donors to its member institutions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Twelve semester hours in a biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural science plus two years of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Possession of an associate's degree in funeral services or mortuary science plus two years of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Certification as a Funeral Director plus two years of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers.
