FUNCTION OF WORK:To supervise law enforcement personnel in support of the DOTD police mission to protect the infrastructure of the State Highway System.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a DOTD Enforcement Captain. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over DOTD Enforcement Sergeants and lower-level personnel as assigned. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from DOTD Enforcement Sergeant by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility over enforcement staff for multiple shifts and/or locations.
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Captain by the absence of managerial responsibility for an assigned enforcement region.

Provides direct supervision of personnel relative to weights and standards enforcement for multiple shifts and/or locations; provides training, guidance and evaluates performance.
Oversees training drills for district personnel.
Supervises investigations of complaints for alleged violations of law.
Coordinates undercover investigations for multiple shifts and/or locations when necessary and coordinates with other law enforcement agencies when supporting multi-agency investigations.
Serves as an on-scene coordinator related to the handling/seizure of evidence.
Conducts internal investigations as required.
Prepares necessary reports and make recommendations for disciplinary action to the DOTD Enforcement Captain.
Ensures proper use and maintenance of all district enforcement vehicles and equipment issued to subordinate personnel.
Prepares written inspection reports and investigates fleet accidents.
Serves as a liaison to state and federal prosecutors by interpreting and answering technical issues related to state and federal laws pertaining to weight and standards enforcement.
Supervises law enforcement activities designed to impact public safety, such as protocols for search and rescue response services, as well as emergency response during large-scale events, disasters, and other events with statewide impact.
Reviews documents completed by subordinates related to enforcement activities to ensure correct procedures and established policies are followed.
May testify in court.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of law enforcement experience in the protection of transportation infrastructure; OR
Six years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
