FUNCTION OF WORK:To administer the operations, maintenance, and law enforcement activities of all state parks.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a Deputy Assistant Secretary. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over Parks Assistant Chief of Operations. May also supervise other parks personnel.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Parks Assistant Chief of Operations by the presence of full authority for all park operations and facilities statewide.

Formulates, prepares, and implements policies, procedures, regulations, operating programs and management plans for all state parks and historic sites.
Recommends and coordinates annual budget.
Evaluates the overall performance and operation of state parks and historic sites.
Plans, organizes, and directs all field operations of state parks and historic sites statewide in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
Coordinates work with various sections within the agency as well as with other agencies such as, but not limited to, Office of Risk Management, Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Natural Resources, Office of Risk Management, Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been in the operation or administration of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites:
Six years of experience in the operation, administration, or maintenance of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites; or in parks or conservation work; OR
Six years of experience in law enforcement, interpretive services, mobile equipment operation, building construction or maintenance.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the general experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience.
