FUNCTION OF WORK:
To assist in the management of operations, interpretation, maintenance, and law enforcement activities at a state park or historic site.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Supervisor

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a higher-level Park Manager. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over personnel assigned to a state park or historic site. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Park Managers by the absence of independent responsibility over operations, interpretation, maintenance, and law enforcement activities at a state park or historic site.

Assists in the planning, organization, direction, and control of work activities on a state park or historic site, which includes administrative, maintenance, security, recreational, safety, interpretive, and custodial services.

Monitors budget and expenses for personnel services, equipment, and materials.

Develops and monitors staff performance planning and review.

Prepares purchase requests and makes needed purchases, maintains fiscal records, and maintains moveable property assets.

Prepares reports and correspondence.

Implements safety program and provides safety training.

Assists in performing literary and field research on the culture, archaeology, history, flora, and fauna of the area; monitors the preservation of historic and/or natural resources.

Provides input into policies and procedures for site operations.

Coordinates site level work by scheduling assignments and directing the work of subordinate staff; selects and trains staff.

Inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure that proper safety, security, and maintenance procedures and standards are being met.

May perform the functions of a peace officer as defined by the POST Council.

SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:
Frequent overtime, night and weekend work are required during peak seasons. Incumbents may be required to live on park grounds and be on twenty-four (24) hour call to respond to emergencies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the operation, administration, or maintenance of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites; or in parks or conservation work; OR

Three years of experience in law enforcement, interpretive services, mobile equipment operation, building construction or maintenance.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.
