FUNCTION OF WORK:To assist in one or more areas of information technology, which may include applications development, technical business analysis, technical support, information security, etc.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Close supervision from an IT Supervisor or IT Manager. May also receive guidance from higher-level information technology professionals. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Information Technology Associate 2 by the absence of independence in performing basic information technology support tasks.

Trains in information technology to become familiar with technologies used for basic tasks.
Learns to follow documented procedures relative to the assigned information technology function.
Under close supervision, performs basic information technology support tasks such as unboxing and initial set up of hardware, basic help desk requests, entering data into a system, basic network or application performance monitoring, etc.
Under close supervision, assists higher level information technology professionals by performing tasks such as basic testing, maintaining documentation, helping in field operations, etc.
Learns to assist in conducting inventory of technical assets by scanning service tags of equipment, entering data in the asset management system, and participating in onsite validation of property.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in information technology; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR
An associate's degree in information technology; OR
A bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.
