FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage ferry operations at an assigned location.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a Ferryboat Operations Manager B or higher-level administrator. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Ferryboat Operations Supervisors. May also supervise lower-level Ferryboat personnel. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Ferryboat Operations Supervisor by the presence of managerial responsibility for an assigned ferry location.

Differs from Ferryboat Operations Manager B by the absence of managerial responsibility for an assigned ferry location with complex operations and/or for multiple ferry locations.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Oversees ferryboat operations for multiple shifts for an assigned location. Ensures all operations comply with USCG regulations and requirements.

Performs personnel administration tasks such as recommending selections, providing training, scheduling work shifts, performance management, etc.

Oversees maintenance for all ferry vessels; plans and schedules maintenance in consideration of operational needs.

Serves as liaison to the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as to law enforcement agencies, vendor sales representatives, construction representatives, ferry passengers, etc.

Coordinates and attends inspections by the U.S. Coast Guard; ensures follow up for any noted concerns. May independently assess equipment, machinery, rigging, gear, operations logs, fuel reports, etc for vessels.

Processes purchase requisitions for materials, supplies and repairs. May assist in budget preparation by anticipating procurement needs.

Monitors expenditures for the assigned ferry location.

Manages construction, repairs, and inspections for vessels in a shipyard.

May serve as assistant manager to a Ferryboat Operations Manager B.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of experience in marine operations or maritime industry operations; OR

Possession of a current U.S. Coast Guard officer's credential as a Master or Chief Engineer.

NOTE:
Possession of a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) will be required at the time of appointment.
