FUNCTION OF WORK:
To maintain, test, and repair computer-driven cranes used for loading and/or unloading ships.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a Port Crane Supervisor; functional from higher-level Port Crane Technicians as needed. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Port Crane Technician 1 by the presence of experienced-level responsibility for troubleshooting and maintenance tasks of computer-driven cranes.

Differs from Port Crane Technician 3 by the absence of advanced-level responsibility for troubleshooting and maintenance tasks of computer-driven cranes.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Maintains, repairs or replaces industrial size electric motors, wire rope reeving systems, gear reducers, and hydraulic systems using maintenance manuals, schematics and diagrams; uses standard tools such as tape measure, wrenches, sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, volt meters, AMP meters, etc.

Performs miscellaneous metal repairs, surface preparation for painting, brush and spray painting, and high pressure cleaning.

Lubricates bearings, pins, gear works and other critical components of cranes; takes oil samples for spectrographic analysis.

Performs inspections of electrical, structural, and mechanical equipment including wire ropes, sheaves and other components involved in the operation of all container cranes.

Uses crane control software applications for crane maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational purposes.

May assist higher level technicians in the troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers and Variable Frequency Drives such as ABB 800, Compact Control Builder, Seimens Step 7, Allen Bradley, RS-Logix, Cutler-Hammer GH-95, General Electric DC 2000, and Logicmaster 90/70.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience or training in the maintenance and repair of computer-driven cranes; OR

Four years of experience or training in the Installation, maintenance, or repair of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic systems in either a commercial or industrial setting; or in the maintenance or repair of computer-driven heavy equipment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
New employees must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
