FUNCTION OF WORK:
To audit time calculation files to ensure the accuracy of initial time computation, re-computation and pre-release computation dates on DPS&C commitments in accordance with court orders, state and federal laws, and departmental regulations.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a higher-level manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May provide functional supervision over lower-level personnel.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services-Adult.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Corrections ARDC Specialist 3 by the presence of responsibility for auditing the initial time computation, re-computation and pre-release computation of offender sentences. Differs from Corrections ARDC Supervisor by the absence of direct supervisory duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Serves as a subject matter expert in Louisiana time computations for all DPS&C commitments of offenders housed in parish prisons, community centers, work release programs, and state institutions.  
 
Ensures the time computation methodology utilized on each release date is in compliance with court orders, state and federal laws, and departmental regulations.  
 
Audits and verifies the accuracy of all time computation completed at the initial time computation upon intake, re-computations for forfeiture of good time, and Certified Treatment and Rehabilitation Program (CTRP) credits prior to an offender being processed at release. 
 
Assists with the training, internal controls, and techniques of initial time computation, re-computation and pre-release computation of offender sentences. 
 
Reviews the data utilized on the time computation record to ensure it accurately reflects the court documentation found in the offender’s master file. 
 
Examines court minutes, bill of information, judge’s orders, and other necessary documentation to ensure time served is calculated in compliance with laws and departmental regulations.  
 
Communicates audit progress and findings by preparing statistical reports for supervisory and management staff.  
 
Documents discrepancies and prepares work papers to support findings. 
 
Recommends updates to the time computation manual, as needed. 
 
Provides training and technical assistance in the program area to lower-level staff. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in offender records analysis and/or offender pre-classification. 
 
SUBSTITUTIONS: 
Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree. 
 
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:  
 
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree. 
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree. 
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.  
   
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.  A master's degree in social work, criminal justice or psychology will substitute for one year of the required experience.
