FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of various devices and components for Intelligent Transportation Systems and other types of complex telecommunications systems.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from an ITS Technician Supervisor or higher-level personnel. May also receive functional supervision from a higher-level ITS Technician.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over lower-level technicians.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from ITS Technician 2 by the presence of advanced troubleshooting and repair responsibilities.

Differs from ITS Technician Specialist by the absence of lead worker responsibilities as a primary duty and/or serving as technical specialist for a region.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Troubleshoots, evaluates and analyzes network performance and makes recommendations to improve system networks.

Maintains components of traffic management systems such as electronic message boards, cameras, radar detectors, and device connectivity etc. and may lead on a project basis.

Makes repairs to complex devices.

Ensures applications and devices adhere to federal, state and agency-specific standards and specifications.

Develops and maintains specifications for ITS and telecommunications technologies; may assist with evaluating and recommending technology.

Leads the installation and maintenance of telephones and telecommunication connectors on a project basis.

Performs on-site inspections and recommends preventive maintenance strategies.

Participates in data collection and analysis.

Provides technical assistance to users by troubleshooting and analyzing connectivity issues involving fiber optic cables and other components.

Provides recommendations for repairs, inclusive of cost estimates and the feasibility of repairing vs. replacing devices.

Provides technical assistance in the setup of conference calls, conferences and call center operations.

Serves as liaison between end-users, state agencies, and vendors; coordinates repairs with vendors and end users.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems; OR

An associate's degree in electrical technology or electronic systems plus two years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electrical technology or electronic systems will be credited as one year of experience.
