FUNCTION OF WORK:To provide managerial oversight for geographic mapping services in support of a GIS program.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:May report to any manager or administrator as determined by the agency to be appropriate for the GIS program.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over GIS personnel. Other combinations of subordinate staff may be considered by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from GIS Supervisor by the presence of managerial responsibilities for a GIS program.

Manages activities related to the geographic information system (GIS), including but not limited to GIS policy development, GIS standards and compliance development, GIS facility management, management of GIS projects and contractors, implementation of public information/relations for GIS, preparation and monitoring of GIS budget, and management of legal aspects regarding GIS data.
Manages GIS personnel development and performance.
Serves as liaison with department administration, division managers and GIS users, and with federal, state and local agencies, the GIS industry and the public.
Develops GIS policies and procedures.
Formulates long-term plans for GIS.
Manages all aspects of GIS facilities and equipment.
Manages acquisition of all data collected through department or contracted personnel, including spatial, non-spatial and LiDAR data.
Establishes and/or approves department or division GIS standards for data and project accuracy and quality.
Monitors GIS technology and manages implementation of improvements for GIS functionality.
Plans, implements and manages joint GIS/remote sensing projects among state and federal agencies to provide GIS data and ensure effective cost utilization.
Manages digital mapping aspects for data input into GIS.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus six years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
A bachelor's degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus five years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography.
