FUNCTION OF WORK:To perform geographic mapping services in support of a GIS program or project.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from a GIS Supervisor. May receive supervision from higher-level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from GIS Analyst 1 by the presence of independent GIS analysis work of moderate complexity.
Differs from GIS Analyst 3 by the absence of advanced GIS analysis work.

Supports moderately complex remote sensing/image processing projects using scanned aerial photography, satellite imagery, LIDAR, etc., to provide input data for GIS use.
Utilizes GIS software to perform moderately complex modeling and data manipulation that may require qualitative or quantitative data analysis.
Produces data layers or features for mapping, including the incorporation of aerial photography to produce special purpose maps, GIS statistics, and modeling results.
Creates and maintains metadata, which is critical technical information required for all GIS mapping.
Enters and verifies GIS data by manual and heads-up digitizing.
May coordinate the use of filing conventions, libraries, and standard database management procedures to ensure standardized GIS operation.
Assists in planning and developing GIS and remote sensing projects.
May assist in field work for GIS projects, including aerial photo interpretation and remote sensing image classification.
Converts GIS spatial data to various GIS software formats, projections and scales; verifies the converted data to assure locational accuracy and the transfer of attribute data.
May research historical data or reference historical maps to verify data according to parcel, land ownership, boundary, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus two years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
A bachelor's degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus one year of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography.
