FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide the enforcement patrol component in support of major programs for fish, game, wildlife, ecosystem and boating safety regulations for the protection and sustainability of wildlife/fisheries resources and public safety within an assigned area or for a statewide-specialized enforcement unit.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher-level wildlife enforcement personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over Wildlife Enforcement Agents when operating as a Field Training Officer (FTO).

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent by the presence of ability to act as a Field Training Officer and by performing specialized enforcement tasks.

Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Sergeant by the absence of responsibility for acting as a parish enforcement coordinator.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Serves as a Field Training Officer (FTO) by training wildlife enforcement agents of a lesser rank in proper enforcement procedures.

Provides weekly reports of parish activities to the parish enforcement coordinator.

Performs background investigations.

Serves as on-scene public information officer as needed.

Patrols public/private land and waters. Investigates/conducts law enforcement activities designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services.

Represents the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries/Enforcement Division at public forums with statewide or national conservation, sportsmen, commercial fisherman organizations, and at meetings with state/federal agencies. Presents demonstrations and explains department laws, rules, and procedures.

Conducts investigations of crimes, crime scenes, and boating crash scenes for the purpose of gathering physical evidence and witness testimony to be used determining criminal causes and in prosecuting suspects. Investigations may include resource crimes, vessel homicides, marine thefts, registration frauds, license frauds, and background checks. May work in an undercover or covert capacity and be required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Three years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. One year of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent or higher rank in state service.  


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.  

Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.  

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.  


NOTE:  This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
