FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage an organizational section responsible for statewide parks programs.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad from the Deputy Assistant Secretary, or other higher-level parks personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over lower-level parks program staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Parks Program Consultant by the presence of administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

Administers the parks interpretive services program for state parks in four functional areas.

Directs professional staff and oversees all program planning and implementation.

Develops rules, operating guidelines, and policies for the research, development, and implementation of interpretive services or materials which explain the significance of historical, archaeological, or natural features of a state park, historic site, or preservation area.

Trains managers and staff in locale-specific interpretive information.

Provides oversight of contracts, grants, agreements, etc. for educational and interpretive programming and services.

Provides recommendations on the design, development, and implementation of innovative educational programs and research projects on the basis of future needs, educational research findings, and state legislative or policy developments.

Coordinates statewide educational program activities within and outside the agency.

Provides extensive specialized direction and final review to architects, landscape architects, exhibit design and audiovisual consultants on complex interpretive program planning and design projects.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus four years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

An advanced degree plus three years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching.
