FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as a consultant and programming advisor for the development and implementation of statewide parks programs.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from Parks Program Manager, or other higher-level parks personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Functional over lower-level parks program staff.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Parks Program Supervisor by the presence of responsibility for ensuring quality and consistent implementation of statewide parks programs.
Differs from Parks Program Manager by the absence of administrative responsibility for statewide programs.

Develops and implements high quality statewide educational, recreational, and related outdoor programs, activities, and services affecting populations such as students, teachers, principals, central office and ancillary/support personnel in the public school systems, special schools, nonpublic schools, public and private colleges and universities, technical colleges, local neglected and delinquent institutions; and individuals from other profit and nonprofit agencies, organizations, and institutions.
Determines statewide program goals and objectives; develops plans to effectively implement the specified program. Provides participants with an accurate understanding of basic ecological concepts, wetland preservation, and urban environmental issues. Instructs participants in their development of basic outdoor skills along with the enhancement of soft skills such as teamwork, problem solving, conflict resolution, self-esteem, and perseverance.
Collaborates in the development of evaluations which measure the quality and effectiveness of program(s) and the impact on participants.
Fosters partnerships/collaborations with outside organizations to provide outdoor education programs and special events. Serves as team leader for schools and school systems to develop educational programs which incorporate grade-level expectations.
Plans, conducts, and evaluates staff development and training for parks personnel, local education agencies, colleges and universities, technical colleges, correctional schools and institutions, churches, civil associations, business and industry groups, special committees and task forces, professional associations and organizations, special interest groups, parents, and other citizens.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR
A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR
An advanced degree plus two years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching.
