FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide parks program services within an agency district (region).

LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from Parks Program Supervisor or other higher-level parks personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over lower-level parks program staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Parks Program Supervisor by the absence of direct supervision over lower-level personnel.

Differs from Parks Program Consultant by the absence of responsibility for developing and implementing statewide educational parks programs.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Assists with the development and implementation of high quality educational, recreational, and related outdoor programs, activities, and services affecting populations such as students, teachers, principals, central office and ancillary/support personnel in the public school systems, special schools, nonpublic schools, public and private colleges and universities, technical colleges, local neglected and delinquent institutions; and individuals from other profit and nonprofit agencies, organizations, and institutions.

Works with higher-level personnel to fulfill program goals and objectives; develops plans to effectively implement the specified program. Guides participants in their quest to acquire an accurate understanding of basic ecological concepts, wetland preservation, and urban environmental issues. Instructs participants in their development of basic outdoor skills along with the enhancement of soft skills such as teamwork, problem solving, conflict resolution, self-esteem, and perseverance.

Supplies feedback to higher-level personnel from evaluations which measure the quality and effectiveness of program(s) and the impact on participants.

Works directly with higher-level personnel to foster partnerships/collaborations with outside organizations to provide outdoor education programs and special events. Assists team leader with schools and school systems in developing educational programs which incorporate grade-level expectations.

Conducts and evaluates staff development and training for parks personnel, local education agencies, colleges and universities, technical colleges, correctional schools and institutions, churches, civil associations, business and industry groups, special committees and task forces, professional associations and organizations, special interest groups, parents, and other citizens.

Coordinates schedules and efforts of parks program staff to ensure professional delivery of contract obligations.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus one year of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural history or the natural environment; archaeological or anthropological work, natural resource management, or teaching; OR

An advanced degree.
