FUNCTION OF WORK:To operate and pilot uninspected marine vessels, as defined by United States Coast Guard regulations.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from a Marine Dredge Captain or comparable supervisor. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by DSCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May exercise functional supervision as required.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Marine Operator 2 by the presence of advanced level responsibilities. Differs from Marine Masters by the presence of duties aboard an uninspected marine vessel.

Complete master log of all operations and submission of required reports. Inspects equipment, machines, rigging, and gear aboard vessels. Tows disabled ferry vessels, barges, mooring pontoon and other floating equipment. May supervise emergency fire and collision drills. Operates vessel equipment such as marine radio, state radio, radar, and related safety equipment; may train others in the use of equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in the operation and piloting of marine vessels plus possession of the appropriate level of U.S. Coast Guard license for the vessel and duties assigned.
