FUNCTION OF WORK:To train, while assisting a higher level Marine Operator, in the operation and piloting of uninspected marine vessels.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from a Marine Dredge Captain or comparable supervisor. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by DSCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Marine Operator 2 by the absence of independent responsibility for piloting an uninspected marine vessel.
Differs from Marine Masters by the assignment of duties on board an uninspected marine vessel, as defined by United States Coast Guard regulations

Trains in proper procedures for completing master log of all operations and submission of required reports. Trains in inspection of equipment, machines, rigging, and gear aboard vessels. Train in towing disabled ferry vessels, barges, mooring pontoon and other floating equipment. Train in proper procedure for exercising all emergency fire and collision drills. Train in operation and proper usage of vessel equipment such as marine radio, state radio, radar, and related safety equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of the appropriate level of U.S. Coast Guard license for the vessel and duties assigned.
