To provide the management function for an inpatient social services unit.

Broad from higher-level administrative staff.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over licensed, master's degree-level social services staff and other employees.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from lower-level professional counselors by providing the management function for an inpatient social services unit composed of counseling staff.

Differs from the Professional Counselor 7 by the absence of managerial responsibility for a multi-faceted social services component.

Differs from other social services jobs by the presence of recognition as a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Marriage and Family Therapy Counselor by the Louisiana State Board of Professional Counselors.

Coordinates the supervision of licensed and non-licensed social services providers through various supervisory levels.

Reviews cases with subordinate supervisors and assists and guides them in the teaching of advanced techniques and in developing the skills in specialized intervention methodologies.

Monitors productivity and quality of service through subordinate supervisors and/or professional social service personnel.

Serves as management participant on departmental committees and represents the social services programs on multidisciplinary committees.

Develops goals, program plans, and policies/procedures. Determines staffing and resource needs for a social services unit.

Assesses and evaluates social services program effectiveness through quality control activities and statistical analysis.

Provides expert testimony and advocacy representation on behalf of clients in court cases.

May provide LPC supervision to candidates for professional counselor certification.

May provide limited direct casework services to a select group of highly complex cases.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) plus four years of licensed counseling experience.
