FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage the implementation of Medicaid programs for an assigned area.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Medicaid Area Managers typically report to an Assistant Medicaid Regional Administrator. May receive supervision from higher level personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Subordinate staff typically includes Medicaid Analyst Supervisors. May supervise lower level personnel.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Medicaid Area Manager 1 by the size of population base served and the complexity of administrative functions performed.

Differs from Assistant Medicaid Regional Administrator by the absence of responsibility for assisting with regional administration of Medicaid eligibility activities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Directs and coordinates the implementation of multiple Medicaid programs.

Prepares annual budget request package based on analysis of office expenditures and projections of future operational needs.

Secures and maintains office(s), including all equipment and services necessary for office operations and the delivery of services to clients.

Recruits and selects professional and support staff.

Develops and maintains working relationships with medical personnel and administrators, community leaders, and state and federal agencies to encourage the development of resources and integration of the agency with the surrounding community.

Addresses questions and complaints from Medicaid applicants and recipients, medical providers and the general public.

Conducts periodic meetings to keep administrators aware of activities in service areas.

Collaborates with agency personnel to ensure program coordination.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of social services experience; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus four years of social services experience; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of social services experience; OR

An advanced degree plus three years of social services experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
