FUNCTION OF WORK:To lead in the maintenance, testing, and repair of computer-driven cranes used for loading and/or unloading ships.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from a Port Crane Supervisor. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:outinely provides functional supervision over lower-level technicians.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Port Crane Technician 3 by the presence of expert-level troubleshooting of computer-driven cranes.
Differs from Port Crane Supervisor by the absence of direct supervision responsibilities.

Accurately interprets Operation & Maintenance manuals, schematics and diagrams; explains procedures to lower-level technicians.
Effectively navigates and utilizes crane management software applications for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of container cranes; assists other technicians with navigating software as needed.
Trains and assists lower-level technicians in the inspection, troubleshooting and repair of crane electric/electronic control systems, mechanical drive systems, hydraulic systems, and structural components of container cranes.
Generates and submits crane activity usage reports; may review reports for other technicians.
Services solid state static stepless, variable speed, single speed, dynamic, and eddy current controls.
Inspects, tests, and troubleshoots container crane components such as electrical/electronic systems, computer systems, programmable logic controllers, mechanical drive assemblies, hydraulic systems, etc.
Formulates and submits inspection reports, damage reports, as well as corrective means and methods action reports.
Installs and adjusts proximity switches, motor starters, circuit boards, and other solid state control devices for electrical control circuits.
Directs and assists other technicians in rebuilding and/or repair of hydraulic control systems and components.
Directs and assists other technicians in the repair or replacement of gear reduction systems and drive line assemblies, sheaves, drums, bearings, pins, blocks, and wire ropes. Installs and aligns electric motors, couplings, bearings, gears, and cylinders to appropriate tolerances.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Four years of experience or training in the maintenance and repair of computer-driven cranes; OR
Four years of experience or training in the installation, maintenance or repair of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic systems in either a commercial or industrial setting; or in the maintenance or repair of computer-driven heavy equipment plus three years of experience or training in the maintenance and repair of computer-driven cranes.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
New employees must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
