FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide site interpretation to park visitors through guided tours, audio-visual presentations, living history demonstrations and other methods.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct supervision from a Park Manager. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May provide functional supervision over museum, visitor center or site personnel as conditions warrant.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Interpretive Ranger 1 by the presence of experienced interpretive duties.

Differs from Interpretive Ranger 3 by the absence of advanced interpretive duties.

Provides interpretive talks and tours to various groups on-site or off-site as required.

Utilizes information based on historical or scientific research to interpret the significance of the site.

Utilizes costumes, craft demonstrations, audio-visual presentations, or other methods to interpret important features and/or significance of the site.

Plans, constructs, and displays educational exhibits.

Schedules and conducts tours and educational programs; develops oral presentations for such tours.

Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence regarding the museum/visitor center or historic and natural preservation programs.

Performs research to develop interpretive themes.

Performs accessing and cataloging activities of museum materials.

Catalogues site forms on historic buildings and places; checks and continually accessions additional site forms for inventory.

Researches, develops and composes educational brochures and instructional activities.

Prepares and presents presentations and speeches to interested groups, such as classes, community organizations, etc., on and off site.

Documents and maintains records of educational activities, materials and inventory items.

May perform curatorial activities for a museum or visitor center at a state park, historic site or preservation area.

May develop and implement conservation and preservation plans for the site.

May be required to perform other general duties as the need dictates in state parks, historic sites, or preservation areas.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in archaeological or anthropological work; or in conservation work or natural resource management; or in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural or physical history or relating to the natural environment; OR

A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in archaeological or anthropological work; or in conservation work or natural resource management; or in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural or physical history or relating to the natural environment.
