Coordinates and supervises forest fire detection, supervision, and prevention activities on forested areas in a parish.
Provides direct line supervision of Forestry Crew Specialists and determines work assignments, approves leave, evaluates performance and reviews and approves work.
Serve as fire boss for large or erratic forest fires requiring multiple crews.
Ensure that fire crews, equipment, and towers are ready for use at all times through inspections and supervision of maintenance and construction activities.
Assigns and supervises work schedules, leave, and assignments of forest fire fighting crews in a parish.
Direct the performance of forest management tasks, such as prescribed burning, timber marking, forest surveys, and insect and disease detection and control activities.
Prepares and presents educational or informational programs or articles.
Assist professional foresters in forest management tasks and inspections, such as the preparation of routine forest management plans and timber sales.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent plus three years of experience in forest management or forest conservation; OR
Six semester hours in forestry, horticulture or botany plus two years of experience in forest management or forest conservation; OR
Completion of a forest technology program of at least eighteen months duration from a technical college plus one year of experience in forest management or forest conservation.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
