FUNCTION OF WORK:To direct activities of more than 50 individuals involving the safety, care, and training of those individuals with developmental disabilities.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General direction from a higher-level professional.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct-line over Residential Services Specialist Training 6 and/or 7 and other staff members.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Health & Hospitals, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, developmental centers--statewide.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from the Residential Services Specialist 7 by the presence of responsibility of directing, programmatically and administratively, in an individual safety, care and training program of more than 50 individuals.

Directs the individuals' safety, care and training activities by coordinating the work of direct care training staff involved in administrating individual treatment plans of care for developmentally disabled individuals facility-wide.
Directs residential services to ensure individuals' participation in training as designated by the treatment plan.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations, standards and guidelines.
Participates in staff conferences regarding the facility programs to coordinate individuals' safety, care and training activities with other divisions.
Organizes and conducts in-service training for the staff.
Initiates and conducts investigations concerning possible neglect and abuse; analyzes findings and makes appropriate recommendations.
Participates in the development and implementation of active treatment plans for all individuals; prepares monthly and quarterly review reports.
Oversees the delivery of each individual's plan of care.
Determines schedules of individuals' activities and supervision to ensure adequate staffing to meet standards.
Prepares and reviews reports of individual's progress and participates in conferences regarding individual training.
Develops policies and procedures concerning specific program area.
Initiates staff meetings to discuss issues, guidelines, individuals' and employees' problems.
Reviews individuals' charts to ensure that the treatment plans are being followed.
Assist with budgetary projections.
Represents the facility at conferences, meetings or public gatherings to explain institution programs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of the required experience in the following minimum qualification must have been at the supervisory level or above:
Five years of experience in health services, behavioral health treatment, developmentally disabled services, rehabilitation services, or special education; OR
Six years of full-time work in any field plus two years of experience in health services, behavioral health treatment, developmentally disabled services, rehabilitation services, or special education; OR
A bachelor's degree plus two years of experience in health services, behavioral health treatment, developmentally disabled services, rehabilitation services, or special education.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
