FUNCTION OF WORK:Provides general and specialized training to residential training specialists and other staff in an OCDD program involving procedures and techniques for the care and training of individuals of developmental and/or physical disabilities. This is not a direct care position.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Human Resources Development Specialists by the absence of professional level duties in developing and evaluating training programs.
Differs from Residential Services Specialist 1, 2, and 3 by the absence of individual direct care responsibilities.
Differs from Residential Services Specialist 5 by the absence of direct-line supervisory responsibility over lower-level Residential Services Specialists.

Coordinates and conducts in-service training programs regarding individual care, crisis prevention/intervention, communication skills, and proper physical restraint techniques for direct care staff.
Assists supervisor and/or other program specialists in developing in-service training presentations regarding individual care dressing skills, adaptive skills, bathing, personal hygiene, and self-help skills.
Assist in editing and revising existing training material.
Prepares and distributes training material pertinent to coursework or training program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in providing care, guidance or training to individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities or chemical dependency; or psychiatric patient care.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training with at least six semester hours per year in one or a combination of education, psychology counseling, social work, sociology, child guidance or nursing will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
Training as Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant at a recognized technical school will substitute on a month for month basis for a maximum of six months of the required experience.
NOTE:
Applicants may be required to satisfactorily complete a course of medication administration.
Completion of an in-service training program administered by the department may be required.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
