LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Health and Hospitals; LSU-Health Sciences Centers, Acute Care Hospitals, Medical Schools; Veterans Affairs; Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from the Social Worker 1 by the presence of independent performance of duties under general supervision.

Differs from the Social Worker 3 by the absence of responsibility for specialized caseloads, lead-worker duties, or coordinating a specialized program for a facility/area/region.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Plans, prioritizes, and manages psychosocial assessments and clinical treatment services by evaluating patient's functioning, conducting intensive interviews, gathering historical, legal, and/or technical data in order to determine and implement the most effective type of psychosocial intervention needed.

Conducts intake interviews, makes preliminary determination of client's eligibility for services, and makes appropriate referrals as needed.

Engages in needs assessment, goals setting, and implementation of planning for mentally retarded clients.

Provides advanced psychosocial case management to individuals, groups, and families when this intervention is determined to be the most appropriate.

Prepares psychosocial assessments, social service summaries, and notations in the client's chart. Provides correspondence to appropriate agencies.

Provides the social work component on a multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary treatment team.

Serves as client advocate to assure that his interests are protected.

Serves as liaison with parent's organizations, civic groups, community agencies, etc.

Develops a working knowledge of correctional or community resources in order to recommend referrals or patients for special services.

Serves as an intervention worker when security, medical personnel, and others encounter difficulties with inmates.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) plus:

A master's degree in social work followed by one year of social services experience.
