FUNCTION OF WORK:To supervise a unit of Economists and provide professional managerial and economic research services to a state agency.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Administrative direction from an Economist 5 or higher-level agency administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over an Economist and technical staff.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from the Economist 3 and Economist 4-A by the presence of direct-line supervisory responsibilities.
Differs from Economist 5 by subordinate relationship and by absence of first-line supervisory responsibilities over at least one Economist 4-A or Economist 4-B.

Supervises Economists and technical support staff in the collection, computation, and interpretation of economic statistics of agency programs for state and federal agencies. Provides state and federal agencies with socioeconomic information to develop policies.
Directs a staff of professional economists, financial specialists, and rate analysts in analyzing financial and economic data for the programs managed.
Develops software applications and programs needed to coordinate the direction and progress of multifaceted research and analyses necessary to forecast economic conditions and trends. Establishes work procedures and provides instruction and guidance to staff in conjunction with the development of software programs and applications.
Designates project leader(s) on complex assignments.
Conducts and supervises the development of work procedures, reviews and approves work of members of project team, and provides guidance and counsel regarding development of studies and analyses.
Represents the agency in adjudicator hearings regarding professional findings.
Represents agency at legislative hearings regarding programs served.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in economics plus three years of experience in economics; OR
A doctorate in economics plus one year of experience in economics.
