FUNCTION OF WORK:To administer and oversee all activities and programs of a division of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Administrative direction from an unclassified Assistant Secretary.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Broad over Biologist Directors, Biologist Program Managers, and a mix of professional Biologist staff.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Biologist Director by responsibility for management, fiscal, and policy administration for a division of the department.

Administers all phases of natural resource research, management, development, protection, and enhancement for the division.
Directs and reviews division programs, technical services, permits, and extension services.
Formulates and establishes guidelines and standards for research, management, development, and utilization of wildlife and fishery resources for the division.
Establishes procedures and methods to comply with state and federal laws and regulations.
Reviews for approval grant requests and proposals, staff recommendations on permit requests, and management plans and recommendations.
Writes and proofreads technical and non-technical articles, papers, news releases, and correspondence; proposes new state legislation; testifies at federal and state legislative hearings and committee meetings.
Meets and confers with other professionals, government officials, user groups, the general public, and other interested parties concerning departmental and program activities and interests.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years of the required experience for the following minimum qualification must have been at the DCL level, supervisory level or above:
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus ten years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR
A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus nine years of the required specialized experience; OR
A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus eight years of the required specialized experience.
