To supervise an organizational unit responsible for biological or environmental research.

Direct supervision over professional and non-professional staff.

Differs from Biologist Manager by the absence of responsibility for the supervision of Biologist Supervisors or equivalent staff.

Directs several monitoring programs within an organizational unit designed to gather data on population abundance and distribution, basic biological parameters, habitat quality, etc.

Investigates fish kills, exotic plant and animal introductions, oil and chemical spills, etc.

Monitors recreational and commercial activities within a geographic area.

Designs, implements, and conducts research projects related to resource management, population dynamics, species biology, habitat changes, etc.

Prepares technical reports of research findings.

Formulates highly technical management recommendations for public lands and water bodies in complex and involved situations that effect wildlife and fisheries populations as well as the environment.

Prepares annual and long-range management plans.

Makes technical recommendations and presentations to the public regarding wildlife, fisheries, and habitat management.

Investigates complaints concerning fish, wildlife, and habitat problems.

Participates on local committees or task forces that have been established to study, manage, and enhance wildlife and fisheries resources and habitats within a geographic region of the state.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR

A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience; OR

A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience.
