FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as chief pilot for an agency or in a geographic region for an air fleet unit responsible for the operation four or more aircraft.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad review from an Aircraft Fleet Command Pilot or other agency supervisors or managers.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Supervision of the aircraft or fleet maintenance functions for the agency or the assigned region, or line or functional over lower ranking pilots or other agency personnel.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Aircraft Pilot 2 either by responsibility for administering the aviation program for an agency with less than five aircraft or responsibility for directing regional flight operations for four or more aircraft within an agency wide air fleet.
Differs from Aircraft Fleet Command Pilot by lack of responsibility for air operations for six or more aircraft.

Performs pilot and agency program duties assigned to Aircraft Pilots 2.
Serves as interim Aircraft Fleet Command Pilot as directed.
Schedules pilots and aircraft.
Prepares regional and statewide reports on aircraft, pilot proficiency, flight scheduling, maintenance, etc., as required by FAA and state regulations.
Coordinates enforcement activities with administrative personnel and field agents.
Maintains aircraft computer reporting programs. May testify in court in connection with prosecution of violators.
May assist law enforcement agencies in apprehension of criminals, search and rescue missions, etc.
Identifies pilot deficiencies, develops individual pilot proficiency plans and supervises or conducts appropriate training.
Provides flight training in fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft; exercises supervision over pilots in training.
Supervises all aircraft maintenance records for the agency or the region to ensure adherence to agency and FAA standards.
Maintains frequent contact with federal agencies and other state agencies for various purposes, including compiling grant application information, coordinating joint work ventures and other reasons.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) first-class or second-class medical certificate and either of the following:
1. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot license with instrument rating followed by 1000 hours of recorded flight time.
2. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license followed by 750 flight hours
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to check out on the model and types of aircraft to be flown.
Possession of appropriate ratings, waivers and/or certificates that may be required by the position to which the appointment is being made.
