FUNCTION OF WORK:
To pilot an aircraft to transport cargo, passengers and to train in the performance of agency program related aerial activities.

Entry

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a higher ranking pilot or other agency supervisors.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from higher level Aircraft Pilots by serving as a trainee in agency aerial program activities or by participation in training to obtain ratings in addition to the FAA commercial airplane pilot's license.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Pilots single or small multiple engine aircraft for various trips and basic flight needs as assigned. Pilots aircraft under visual flight rules.

Obtains pre-flight information; prepares and files flight plans.

Determines airworthiness of aircraft and evaluates flight conditions.

Completes flight reports.

Participates in on-the-job training in law enforcement, research or survey operations, aerial photography, fire, insect and/or disease detection, wildlife spotting and telemetry studies, and/or other agency program activities that incumbent will perform in addition to piloting duties.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) first-class or second-class medical certificate and either of the following:

1. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot license with instrument rating with 500 hours of recorded flight time.

2. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to check out on the model and types of aircraft to be flown.

Possession of appropriate ratings, waivers and/or certificates that may be required by the position to which the appointment is being made.
