FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide for the management of cancer-related data collection systems.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad review from a higher level administrator of the agency served.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct line supervision over clerical, paraprofessionals and professional employees engaged in tumor registry activities.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Tumor Registry Supervisor by having responsibility for managing all the activities related to the collection of data listing new cancer cases.

Establishes policies and procedures to implement and maintain data collection within the hospital and develops a quality control system to maintain a high degree of accuracy.

Designs cancer related data collection systems appropriate for the health care facility.

Prepares the budget through written narrative, projection of expenditures, determining adjustments and reviewing expenditures.

Participates in medical staff activities regarding quality assurance and research.

Plans and offers in-service educational programs for health care personnel.

Makes decisions regarding employment, retention, promotion, demotion and other personnel actions.

Works with computer programmer to develop and refine data used for system programs to meet national standards.

Stimulates community interest in cancer prevention and research through public speaking.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of oncology or tumor registry experience; OR

Six semester hours in human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, bacteriology, or a medical field plus three years of oncology or tumor registry experience.; OR

Registration with the National Cancer Registrar’s Association as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) plus two years of oncology or tumor registry experience.
