FUNCTION OF WORK:Provides leadership in conducting epidemiological activities related to collecting, analyzing and interpreting data about health events in order to assess and help assure the health and safety of Louisiana citizens.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a Public Health Epidemiologist Supervisor or other higher-level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from a Public Health Epidemiologist Technician 2 by independently conducting epidemiological activities and independence in using technical tools of epidemiology, such as; study design and statistics.
Differs from a Public Health Epidemiologist Supervisor by the absence of the following: responsibility for direct supervision of epidemiology staff, prioritizing appropriate public health intervention programs and handling policy development issues.

Develops and designs databases.
Interprets, analyzes, and evaluates data using statistical computer programs.
Participates in the formulation of policies and programs based on the data collected and analyzed to prevent the spread of disease, injury, disability, etc.
Provides technical assistance to other professionals in government, academia, health care, the community, and the private sector in multi-disciplinary projects and on community health planning teams.
Serves as a resource to the general public and to the news media at the local, state, or national level by responding to requests for information.
May serve as a technical advisor in the design and execution of interdisciplinary projects.
Coordinates, organizes, and plans community meetings relating to epidemiological activities.
Assists in the preparation of grant proposals to present to various funding agencies for public health activities.
Assists in the development and measurement of health indicators.
Participates in the planning and coordinating of epidemiological services in health emergencies (e.g. chemical spills, industrial explosions, hurricanes, natural disasters, disease and injury outbreaks, etc.) as needed to insure and maintain community public health or when requested to do so by the Governor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, nursing, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences plus one year of experience in epidemiology; OR
A doctorate degree in epidemiology.
