FUNCTION OF WORK:To administer the medical, treatment, administrative or security programs of a large, complex adult correctional facility.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broard direction from a higher level Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over lower level staff.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, Office of Adult Services.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Corrections Assistant Warden 2 or 4 by independent responsibility for an assigned program area.
Differs from Correction Deputy Warden 3, 4 or 5 by lack of overall responsibility as second in command of a correctional facility.

Evaluates current policies and programs for improvements or alterations to meet changes in the program area.
Reviews all serious and unusual occurrence reports.
Analyzes performance of assigned staff.
Reviews written complaints from offenders.
Conducts staff meetings and staffing reviews.
Responds on a 24-hour basis to significant unusual occurrences at the facility.
Prepares and submits reports on crimes committed inside the facility. Works with officials of local, state and federal units of law enforcement regarding criminal activity that occurs within the facility.
Testifies in federal and state court on behalf on the facility.
Assists in the budget preparation and justification of needs of program areas.
Reviews offender records to recommend or deny trusteeship or other privileges.
Supervises offender disciplinary or classification functions.
Supervises offender organizations.
Performs special projects as required.
Serves as weekend duty warden on a rotating schedule.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any of the following will qualify:
1. A baccalaureate degree plus four years of professional level experience in a correctional or penal institution; in a headquarters office having overall jurisdiction over correctional or penal institutions; or in a Prison Enterprises headquarters office.
2. A baccalaureate degree plus four years of experience in a correctional or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, and rehabilitation or classification of offenders in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility and/or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.
3. A baccalaureate degree plus four years of experience in Prison Enterprises with the responsibility for the security, custody, and rehabilitation of offenders in a position equivalent in the scope of responsibility and/or complexity of work performed to Prison Enterprises Quality Assurance Manager, Prison Enterprises Regional Manager, Prison Enterprises Industries Manager, Prison Enterprises Marketing Manager, Prison Enterprises Agriculture Manager and above.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Additional professional or sub-professional experience in qualifying fields will substitute for the required degree on a year for year basis.
A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience listed under any option.
A Ph.D. will substitute for two years of the required experience listed under any option.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
