FUNCTION OF WORK:
To serve as the principal assistant to a division director in an office of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in lieu of an unclassified assistant director.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Administrator

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Administrative direction from an unclassified division director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Agriculture Specialist Managers. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Agriculture Specialist Manager by the presence of administrative responsibility for multiple sections within a division.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Assists in directing the activities of more than one section within an assigned division.

Assists the unclassified division director in making technical decisions; serves as highest level technical and programmatic advisor to the division director on matters related to assigned program area.

Participates in administrative and/or regulatory policy decisions involving the management and/or regulation of the assigned program area.

Develops and proposes new or revised regulations.

Recommends divisional policy and performance criteria.

Serves as division liaison and activity coordinator with various federal, state and local agencies.

Conducts and/or attends technical seminars pertinent to assigned area of responsibility.

Represents the division director at frequent meetings with the general public, industry representatives, or other groups as required to explain Division policies, programs or work efforts.

Keeps abreast of and advises the division director on proposed federal and state legislation that may affect assigned program area.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the supervisory level or above:

Eight years of experience in one or a combination of the following:

1. Administrative services
2. Inspecting or enforcing compliance with agricultural laws, rules, or regulations
3. Inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices;

OR

A bachelor’s degree in forestry, an agricultural, biological, chemical, environmental, health, or physical science, or an information technology, mathematics, or business field, plus five years of the required specialized experience; OR

A master's degree in forestry, an agricultural, biological, chemical, environmental, health, or physical science, or an information technology, mathematics, or business field, plus four years of the required specialized experience.
