FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide professional occupational therapy services in directing an occupational therapy program.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a higher level Occupational Therapist or administrative official.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional/clinical supervision over lower level Occupational Therapy Assistants/Technicians, student interns or paraprofessional staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Occupational Therapist 2 by the presence of advanced-level duties such as aquatherapy, assistive technology, dysphagia, spasticity, low vision, hippotherapy/equine therapy, animal assisted therapy, and/or sensory processing/integration. Differs from the Occupational Therapist Supervisor by the absence of direct-line supervision over 2 or more lower level occupational therapists or other professionals

Plans and carries out the intervention process for referred individuals, and devises or adjusts the approaches and priorities to meet intervention objectives.

Coordinates with other health care providers concerning total care. Informs supervisor where treatment is contraindicated or where other issues may result in conflict with other providers.

Plan and carries out individual treatments according to established professional practices, modifying procedures and equipment as circumstances warrant, and determining when each person has reached maximum potential.

Consults with physicians, nurses, or other health care providers in resolving problems concerning individual treatments.

Evaluates clients and patients to assess needs for occupational therapy in the areas of motor functioning, sensory integrative functioning, cognitive functioning, psychological functioning, and social functioning.

Directs all occupational therapy activities of program staff.

Trains and supervises subordinate professional and paraprofessional staff and student interns.

Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of department policies and procedures.

Directs treatment of all patients in the program supervised.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Occupational Therapist license plus one year of experience as a licensed occupational therapist.
