FUNCTION OF WORK:To perform complex/leadworker task in the installation, repair, adjustment and modification of electrical controls and electronic and pneumatic instrumentation for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, boiler systems, fire alarms, sound systems and energy management systems in a large, complex physical plant.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from a HVAC/Control Technician Foreman or Maintenance Supervisor of a higher level.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Functional over HVAC/Control Technicians and other craftsmen assigned on a project basis.
LOCATION OF WORK:JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from HVAC/Control Technician by leadworker responsibilities and/or performance of more complex tasks, such as responsibility for a energy management system or complex instrument repair.
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics by the presence of specialized technical duties peculiar to meter, instrument and electrical controls associated with large HVAC refrigeration and utility plant systems.
Differs from HVAC/Control Technician Foreman by the absence of responsibility for supervising the HVAC refrigeration, instrumentation and controls system for an agency or a large HVAC complex.

Performs technical repairs and complex diagnostic analysis relative to all types of HVAC and refrigeration instrumentation and controls.
Inspects instrument and controls or HVAC refrigeration systems periodically and makes calibration adjustments to insure that indication recording and controlling meters and instruments function within specific standards.
Insures proper interfacing between electrical and temperature control systems with proper interlocks, relays, etc.
Performs air balancing as required to achieve desired comfort levels.
Performs complex repairs on centrally controlled fire alarm circuitry and energy management system.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical control systems including starters, disconnects and switchgear associated with HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Works from blue prints and complex diagrams and schematics when installing control circuits, mixing box controls and troubleshooting HVAC control equipment.
Disassembles malfunctioning pneumatic and electrical instruments, examines and tests mechanisms and circuitry for defects and makes repairs as required.
Functionally supervises craftsmen and helpers assigned on a project basis.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical, or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
