FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as Chief of Security at an adult facility housing 700 inmates or within a unit having 400 or more inmates.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad review from Corrections Assistant Warden.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over Corrections Lieutenant Colonel or lower level uniformed personnel.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Corrections Lieutenant Colonel by responsibility for serving as Chief of Security at an adult correctional institution.
Differs from Corrections Assistant Warden by the absence of responsibility for management of an entire program at an adult correctional institution.

Serves as Chief of Security.
Serves as an assistant Chief of Security over the main prison complex or auxiliary camps at Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP).
Assists Corrections Assistant Warden(s) with management and control of all prisoners at an assigned institution.
Assists in the development and installation of policies, procedures and regulations for the custody and security of inmates.
Assists in the review of disciplinary matters concerning infractions by both inmates and personnel.
Supervises subordinate security personnel who are assigned a major security area.
Participates in development of emergency contingency plans.
Responds on a 24-hour basis to major unusual occurrences at the institution.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
2. One year of experience in any field; OR
3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.
