FUNCTION OF WORK:To provide the enforcement patrol component in support of major programs for fish, game, wildlife, ecosystem, and boating safety regulations for the protection and sustainability of wildlife/fisheries resources and public safety within an assigned area or for a statewide specialized enforcement unit in an on-the-job training capacity.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Close from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant, Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Training Academy staff, or higher-level Wildlife Enforcement personnel who are Field Training Officers during FTO program.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Cadet by the absence of training in an academy setting.
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent by the absence of performing the full range of field enforcement work and by the supervision received.

Patrols public/private land and waters.
Investigates/conducts law enforcement activities designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services.
Investigates violations through surveillance and by developing information sources such as informants.
May work in an undercover or covert capacity and be required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife.
Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who utilize Louisiana's lands, waterways, and wildlife/fish resources.
Identifies and apprehends suspected violators.
Investigates related crimes, crime scenes, and vessel crash scenes for the purpose of gathering physical evidence and witness testimony to be used in making determinations of cause in prosecuting suspects.
Secures areas impacted by natural/manmade disasters and civil disturbances.
Coordinates the removal of injured persons and vessels involved in crashes or other incidents.
Completes documents related to enforcement activities such as reports of investigations, inspections, written warnings, natural resource restitutions, citations, affidavits, warrants/ search warrants, property receipts/releases, and other paperwork that may be required by the department, commission, district attorneys, U.S. Attorneys or any other entity having oversight of criminal or civil prosecution.
Inspects/investigates facilities and records of licensees/permitees to determine compliance with state laws and regulations.
Participates in investigations involving environmental, conservation, and boating incidents.
Appears as a witness in court.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement as a Wildlife Enforcement Cadet in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
