FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as manager of an enforcement operational/patrol program associated with fisheries, wildlife, boating, and search/rescue activities over an assigned region,

To manage a statewide enforcement operational/patrol or a statewide administrative enforcement support service program.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a Wildlife Enforcement Major or higher-level wildlife enforcement personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenants, assigned regional enforcement personnel, and non-law enforcement administrative professionals.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant by the presence of responsibility for the management of an enforcement region, or statewide-specialized operational/patrol or statewide administrative enforcement support service programs.
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Major by the absence of administrative responsibility of a specific program, management and supervision of a statewide-specialized enforcement unit, and direct line supervision over several regions or regulatory supervision over statewide enforcement activities.

Plans, directs, and manages general and complex enforcement activities of a region including all facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension, and arrest of violators of state/federal law.
Manages, directs, coordinates, and implements regulatory activity associated with statewide operational/patrol, or administrative enforcement support program related to the management, protection and conservation of wildlife/fisheries resources and the statewide boating program.
Insures that seized property is properly stored and disposed of as required by law.
Reviews activity reports, accident reports, citations, and violation reports submitted by subordinates.
Reviews complaints submitted by the public on patrol activities. Investigates and follows through with the appropriate actions.
Coordinates property management, evidence inventory control, equipment maintenance, and region/support unit budgeting.
Oversees agent field training.
Serves as liaison with executives of other local, state and federal government agencies.
Oversees investigations and enforcement action of all fleet incidents involving region personnel.
Conducts review of workers' compensation claims within the region in an effort to determine injury patterns and the necessity for corrective safety measures.
Directs enforcement of Title 14, 34, 56, 76 and Code of Federal Regulations related to fish, wildlife and boating within a region or statewide work unit.
Supervises coordination of background investigations of prospective employees in an attempt to determine suitability for law enforcement work.
Reviews and maintains files on all boating accident reports. Compile statistics of all boating activities in the state.
Coordinates regional or special unit public information releases.
Directs investigations of crimes, crime scenes, and boating crash scenes for the purpose of gathering physical evidence and witness testimony to be used in determining criminal causes and prosecuting suspects. Investigations may include resource crimes, vessel homicides, marine thefts, registration frauds, license frauds, and background investigations.
Supervises the securing of areas impacted by natural/manmade disasters and civil disturbances.
Coordinates the removal of injured persons and vessels involved in crashes or other incidents.
Reviews, prepares, and completes all documents related to enforcement activities such as reports of investigations, inspections, written warnings, natural resource restitutions, citations, affidavits, warrants, search warrants, property receipts and releases, and other paperwork that may be required by the department, commission, District Attorneys, U.S. Attorneys or any other entity having oversight of criminal or civil prosecution.
Oversees and participates in investigations of environmental, conservation, or boating incidents.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher rank in state service:
Six years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
