FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as statewide assistant administrator by assisting the Division Administrator in directing enforcement programs associated with operational and technical functions of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Serves as assistant to the administrator over the operational/patrol functions or the enforcement administration functions of these programs.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad direction from the Wildlife Enforcement Colonel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over Wildlife Enforcement Majors and/or Captains and non-law enforcement administrative professionals.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division, Headquarters.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Major by the presence of administrative responsibility over either operations/patrol or administrative functions of the Enforcement Division and administrative responsibility over enforcement of technical programs associated with the department's mission.
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Colonel by the absence of final administrative responsibility for all Enforcement Division programs, operational/patrol, and enforcement administration.

Directs and administers either the statewide operations/patrol or the administrative functions/ programs of the Law Enforcement division.
Assist in administering all departmental of enforcement activities relative to natural resource management, development, enhancement, and protection.
Serves as a principle advisor to the Division Administrator. Provides advice to the Secretary and Assistant Secretaries on laws and implementation of natural resource management, protection, and conservation plans that require regulation of people by enforcement.
Assists the Division administrator in establishing procedures for the enforcement of state and federal laws for wildlife, fishery, and boating.
Writes/reviews grant proposals, cooperative enforcement agreements, contracts, state/federal reciprocal agreements, and memorandums of agreement.
Monitors the effectiveness of department programs and the enforceability/viability of management, protection, conservation, and safety programs provided to the citizens of the state.
May be assigned to represent the state as the Boating Law Administrator or special emergency operations coordinator.
Writes and approves technical enforcement operation proposals, papers, news releases and correspondence; proposes new state legislation; testifies at federal/state legislative and committee meetings.
Reviews the current/long-range programs, plans, and policies relative to enforcement activities for the Enforcement Division?s Operations/Patrol or Administrative organization.
Prepares and manages the annual operating budget for the enforcement division (including the enforcement offices throughout the state) to the administrative requirements of the Undersecretary.
Confers with chiefs, assistant chiefs, assistant directors, and directors of state/federal law enforcement agencies, i.e., U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, Customs, U.S. Food and Drug Administrations, Drug Enforcement Agency, Homeland Security, State Police, US Attorneys, District Attorneys, Judges, and Legislators on matters relating to the department?s enforcement program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Nine years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. One year of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Major in state service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.
Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
