FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide the enforcement patrol component in support of major programs for fish, game, wildlife, ecosystem and boating safety regulations for the protection and sustainability of wildlife/fisheries resources and public safety; and, to serve as a parish coordinator for enforcement operational/patrol within an assigned district or statewide specialized enforcement unit.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher-level wildlife enforcement personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise project or functional supervision over wildlife enforcement agents of lower rank.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Corporal by the presence of serving as a parish enforcement coordinator.

Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant by the absence of supervisory responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Patrols public/private land and waters.

Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who utilize Louisiana's lands, waterways, and wildlife/fish resources.

Identifies and apprehends suspected violators.

Conducts law enforcement patrols designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services to include DWI on waterway, careless operation, reckless operation, etc.

Coordinates the removal of injured persons and vessels involved in crashes or other incidents.

May assist in an undercover or covert capacity and is required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife.

Perform compliance checks on commercial seafood businesses and wholesale dealers to ensure compliance with applicable Wildlife and Fisheries statutes, state, and federal laws

Perform compliance inspections on commercial fisherman operating in Louisiana and Federal waters.

Coordinates enforcement activities within an assigned parish or work unit with lower level wildlife enforcement agents.

Oversees enforcement activities on Wildlife Management Areas located in assigned parish.

Monitors/submits reports related to equipment upkeep and condition.

Serves as a temporary district supervisor in absence of the Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant.

Enforce Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries statutes and federal laws regarding conservation of wildlife, fisheries, and boating safety.

Issue citations, make arrests, and testify in court proceedings as necessary.

Provide education to the public and industry professionals on legal compliance and best practices.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent or higher rank in state service:

Four years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Possession of a current driver's license.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
