FUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as statewide chief administrator directing all the enforcement programs associated with the operational and technical functions of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Administrative direction from the unclassified Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary or Deputy Secretary.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct line over Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant Colonel(s) and non-law enforcement administrative professionals.
LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division, Headquarters.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant Colonel by the presence of final administrative responsibility for all Enforcement Division programs, operational/patrol and enforcement administration.

Administers all departmental enforcement activities relative to natural resource management, development, enhancement, and protection.
Serves as principal advisor to the Secretary and Assistant Secretaries on laws and implementation of natural resource management, protection, and conservation plans that requires regulation of people by enforcement.
Formulates and establishes guidelines, standards, and priorities for all enforcement activities associated with successfully implementing management of all wildlife/fishery resources and state boating programs.
Reviews and approves grants, cooperative enforcement agreements, state/federal reciprocal agreements, and memorandums of agreements for the division.
Writes/proofreads technical enforcement operation proposals, papers, news releases and proposals for state legislation. Testifies at federal/state legislative and committee meetings.
Reviews current and long-range programs, plans, and policies for the Enforcement Division and for the department relative to enforcement activities.
Manages the annual operating budget of the Enforcement Division including operating budgets of enforcement offices throughout the state to the administrative requirements of the Undersecretary.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Two years of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Major or higher rank in state service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.
Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
