FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform policy planning, research and analysis involving a wide range of issues for a state agency.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from Policy Planner 4 or higher level professional.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from the Policy Planner 2 in that it has less independence and responsibility.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Participates in policy identification, utilizing revised statutes and legislative acts, executive orders, executive budgets, department policy statements, citizen group recommendations and special commission reports.

Participates in special policy research projects, involving needs assessment surveys, issue identification surveys, special purpose questionnaires, citizen participation components, collection and analysis of model legislation and comparable data from other states.

Participates in cost-benefit analyses of proposed policy and program alternatives.

Participates in trend evaluation and long-range forecasting based on statistical analysis.

Participates in analysis of proposed state and federal legislation for impact on existing state policies, programs and initiatives.

Participates in staff support and policy research activities for Governor's special purpose commissions and task forces.

Participates in evaluation of agency plans and review of federal grant applications having statewide impact.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in policy planning; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in policy planning; OR

A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in policy planning; OR

An advanced degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
