FUNCTION OF WORK:To coordinate the activities of a safety and emergency preparedness program.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Safety Program Coordinator by responsibility for coordinating an emergency preparedness program.
Differs from Safety Risk Agency Manager by lack of direct line supervision.

Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of the agency safety and emergency preparedness program in cooperation with city, state and federal agencies.
Establishes and distributes safety guidelines for each division.
Establishes policies and procedures to safeguard against acts of terrorism.
Inspects agency work sites to review and locate possible safety hazards. Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, state, federal, city and any other regulations. Recommends corrective action when needed.
Conducts workshops, conferences and seminars on safety and emergency preparedness.
Directs federal emergency programs to assist citizens in obtaining low interest loans.
Develops civil defense plans for aiding victims of disaster.
Establishes operational policies and procedures to plan, organize and coordinate the work of division heads regarding safety and emergency programs.
Compiles and analyzes accident statistical data and trends.
Provides technical assistance for controlling on-the-job injuries including evaluation of special problems and recommendations for corrective action.
Interprets results of job analysis to assist in proper selection and placement of personnel whose capabilities and/or limitations are not suited to the job.
Administers self-insured Worker's Compensation program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
