FUNCTION OF WORK:To perform a variety of complex clinical respiratory care procedures.
LEVEL OF WORK:SUPERVISION RECEIVED:General from higher-level respiratory care personnel or medical professional.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May exercise functional supervision over lower-level respiratory care and/or cardiopulmonary staff.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from the Respiratory Care Therapist 1-Registered by the presence of responsibility for performing a variety of complex clinical respiratory care procedures. May serve as a lead-worker over lower level respiratory therapists and/or cardiopulmonary staff.
Differs from the Respiratory Care Therapist Supervisor/Registered by the absence of supervisory responsibility over a shift, which includes subordinate Respiratory Care Therapists-Registered and Cardiopulmonary staff.

Administers prescribed treatments for patients with cardiopulmonary problems and delivers intensive respiratory care to critical patients with complex, involved disease states.
Carries out doctors' prescriptions for respiratory care patients, checks charts, verifies orders, recommends changes in orders, and validates patients' services.
Assists physician with performance of various procedures vital to the cardiopulmonary disorders of patients.
Manages mechanical ventilation by use of ventilation protocols and performs all required assessments.
Initiates advanced level ventilation modalities such as high frequency ventilation or dual mode ventilation.
Initiates complex gas delivery procedures using gases such as; nitric oxide, carbon dioxide, or helium.
Makes regular rounds and observes to assure patient care.
May serve as a lead therapist in an assigned unit with other lower level respiratory staff.
Assists in preparing and maintaining quality control and performance improvement activity reports.
May provide in-services on all areas of respiratory care.
Instructs and educates patients in the use of equipment and disease processes so that patient adjustment will be made more easily.
May assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
May review completed work and assure compliance with departmental procedures.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license and accreditation with the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist plus one year of experience as a licensed registered respiratory therapist.
